Why would anyone consider spending $2400 on a snow blade when you can get a front mount snow blower for the same price or a 3 point for $1200? I've had a front tractor mounted snow blade and it's usefulness was limited. I now use a 60" 3 point Allied blower and never worry about the drifts being too hard, too deep, or run out of places to throw it. Maybe I've improperly assumed that your going to push snow, I guess you may have other uses in mind.

It's me again! I've been blowing snow with my new 790 (quite impressive). Soon however it will be time to be thinking about buying a mower of some type. I think I'd like to have a belly mower. Does anyone know if there are any other brands (besides JD) that will fit the 790?

I noticed that my new 4 WD 790 is leaking oil (or hydraulic fluid). On closer inspection I found that it's weeping out of a round threaded hole (about 5/16" dia) on the front of the rear axle casting about two inches below where the brake rod enters the casting. There is the same hole on both the right and left sides of the axle casting.My dealer said he wasn't sure what the holes are for so he phoned JD's service tech line. They told him that he should just plug them so he did. I'm a little nervous because nobody seems to know why the holes are there and they are possibly just taking the easy way out. Does anyone see holes as I've described on the axle casting of their 790? Are they open or plugged? Do they have a vented plug?

I also want to thank everyone for the replies to my original post, it was quite helpful. So helpful that I've ordered the tractor (790, 4 wd, mid PTO, etc), I've been promised a 2 week delivery. Also I have the snowblower purchased and in my garage, I bought an Allied (same as Farmking)60" 2 stage 3pt.I'm excited in anticipation of it's arrival, and believe it or not, will soon be praying for snow!
